Back in December 2018, I did a post on tastings of some rosé wines. For some reason that I cannot remember, my favourite rosé was not included.
Of course it is only my favourite of the ones I have tasted so far. I will try more and let you know if I find one that I prefer. And please do your own tastings and post reviews of your favourite.
Château Reillanne
- Grande Réserve 2017
- Côtes de Provence
- €6.40 at Auchan
It is a Côtes de Provence. From my experience so far, I find that rosés from this area are always a good bet, and I generally buy roses from here.
Normally, I think of a rosé as a light summer drink, and do not want to pay a lot for a rose. This one is more expensive than some of the decent quality reds and whites that I buy, but I still buy a box of 6 when I am in Auchan.
(Arrhhgg!! on my last trip to Boulogne, they did not have this in stock, so no guarantee that you will be able to buy this, or that price is still accurate if it is available again.)
Review
(By me and Mary)
Why I like this wine. I just do.
First of all let us look at the colour. With rosés, I tend to prefer those that are lighter and paler, nearer a white to a red. When I saw this in the store, even in the bottle, there was something about the colour that I liked. This is why I took a chance and bought one. You see this even better after pouring some into a glass. It has a pale attractive hue.
Next is aroma. Subtle floral perfume scent. Very nice.
And finally taste. Dry, crisp. and refreshing. It has an early spring, fresh dew feel about it, with a light citrus taste, but not overpowering.
It has a slightly more bodied flavour that you would expect from a rose. If you like dry whites, but want something with a bit more body, this is ideal.
It goes well with a fish dish. We had it with sea bass and a light thai vegetable and noodle dish. It was a very good accompaniment. It would go well with chicken too.
A very good wine, until I find a better one, this is my favourite rosé.
